Here's a glimpse at my honeymoon with little side notes about food we enjoyed. Suzanne and I were married on a Saturday. We spent our first night in the Airport Hotel at Greater Cincinnati Airport (I'm not sure they were considered "international" at the time.) On Saturday morning we headed for Columbus, Ohio by car. (Are you wondering why we stayed at the airport hotel? It was a gift.)
On the way, we stopped for breakfast at Perkins on Reading Road in Amberly Village (it's not there now). To our shock, we ran into a group from our wedding reception of the night before. It was slightly embarrassing.
We headed on to Columbus where we had two nights in a large downtown hotel that was also a gift. Around the corner from the hotel was a nice looking restaurant in which we decided to have dinner. It was an Italian place named Marzetti's. Yes, this is the same Marzetti that is now a huge company that sells salad dressings; fruit and vegetable dips. It all started with one little restaurant in downtown Columbus. They got out of the restaurant business in 1972.
The next night, Tuesday, we were back in Cincinnati and stayed at El Rancho Rankin Motel - leopard skin bedding. We paid for that one ourselves. We ate that night at the ballpark - Crosley Field. We watched the Reds beat the Pirates - I'd guess we had hot dogs.
The next day I headed back to Maryland to work for Uncle Sam. The food was not so exciting, there.
