RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

MILO

At the bequest of one of my children, I will begin again marking the special days of our family - just so no one forgets.  That means the family will have to read the entries early in the day if you want to pretend that you didn't forget a birthday, anniversary, or whatever.

On this date in 1742, Handel's "Messiah" was performed for the first time at New Music Hall in Dublin, Ireland.

On this date in 1860, the first Pony Express rider reached Sacramento, California with mail.

On this date in 1861, the first battle of the US Civil War ended when Fort Sumter surrendered to the Confederate Army.

On this date in 1869, the power steam brake was patented by George Westinghouse.

On this date in 1963, Pete Rose got his first major league hit; a triple.  On this same date in 1984, he recorded his 4,000th hit.

Gary Kasparov, long-time world chess champion, was born on this date, as was pro golfer Davis Love III  and actor Ricky Schroder.

Today is Milo Lysaght's birthday.  In order by date, he is my seventh grandson and 9th of my grandchildren.  He completed his 17th year yesterday.  17 years orbiting the Sun; amazing, isn't it.  That didn't make him dizzy but a recent lacrosse encounter did.  He's supposed to be out of concussion protocol as of yesterday.  He begins his 18th year today; the date he was born.  Happy Birthday, Milo.
