RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

MY KNOT

Our country's military, namely the US Air Force,  maintains intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) at three locations around the county.  The missiles are the third iteration of the originals built in 1962 called the Minuteman.  Boeing manufactures and services them; they upgrade guidance and propulsion on a regular basis.  The cost for each missile is about $7 million.  Any other of our nuclear missiles are carried in submarines and are the MIRV type (multiple target capable).

One of those three locations on land is Minot AFB, North Dakota - the 91st Missile Wing.  In Minot, they have about 150 missiles in 15 launch sites.  Some launch sites around the country have been designated as warm sites; in mothballs but easily activated.

I have a grandson, Ben, who is in the Air Force at Minot and works on their security force.  He recently went through special training to be put on the base's Tactical Response Force.  It is the equivalent of a SWAT team with primary duty to protect those nuclear missiles.  We are all very proud of him.

Today happens to be his beautiful wife Isabella's birthday.   We are very proud of her too.  Wish Bella happy birthday today.
