ASH WEDNESDAY
Lord Jesus, Son of God, you were a man who knew well what it is to suffer. You were both loved and despised in your time. You know what it is to be human, how easy it is for us to fail, and yet, no matter how often we fail, you love us unconditionally. For us sinners, you suffered and died but, just days before your death, you left us the way to join you in paradise - your left yourself, in the Eucharist. Today I begin the journey to Easter and your conquering of death. As a sign, I wear the ashes of humility, grief, and repentance. May I remember during these forty days that I am preparing myself for you; repenting my sins and living to join you someday. Amen.
