RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

NEWS OF THE WEEK - SPORTS

The Reds were hot last weekend having swept the Colorado Rockies in impressive fashion.  The Cardinals came in from St. Louis and the locals continued their dominance and a five game winning streak. After a rainout on Tuesday, The Cards pooped on our plate winning two from us on Wednesday.  On Thursday, the Reds bounced back with a 9-1 laugher.  The Washington Nationals walked into town on Friday for a weekend set and the Reds pounded them 6-1 behind Hunter Greene.

Last Saturday, FC Cincinnati continued it's impressive streak of wins.  They pushed their record to 7-2-1 with a 2-1 squeaker over Sporting KC.  I'm always especially glad when we stomp a team from Kansas City.  This weekend the orange and blue will face the New York City FC on Sunday afternoon.

The Bengals completed the draft of new players last Saturday.  It was probably the best day of the event for them.  They followed the draft by signing a group of guys with dreams of making it who don't really have much chance.  I won't mention who they picked or signed because chances are you've never heard of them and you may never hear of them again.  Next up - mini-camp, to get a look at the new guys in simulated action.  The season schedule will be announced on the 14th.

The Kentucky Derby will be run this afternoon.  Yesterday, they ran the ladies equivalent at Churchill Downs called the Kenducky Oaks.  The girls run 1-1/8 miles on the grass.  The Oaks was won going away by undefeated filly Good Cheer on the sloppy track in Louisville.  The current odds and almost every journalist in the country are picking Journalism for today's Derby.  I say, every journalist needs to look out for the Publisher.

Did I mention that the NBA and NHL playoffs are ongoing?  I'm pretty sure they will end this year.
