THAT'S FISHY

I took my wife on a business trip to Puerto Rico thirty years ago.  Many years after, the one event she distinctly remembered about the trip was receiving a whole fish on a plate in a small restuarant.  She said the shocking thing about it was the eye of the fish - looking up at her from the plate.  No way she was going to eat that fish.

Fish eyes are interesting.  Almost no fish have eyelids.  They don't need them to keep their eyes moist like we do.  The depth at which fish like to live conforms to their ability to see - food and predators.  Most fish have adapted to some depth below the surface based on their vision at that depth.  The deeper you go in the water, the less light there is.  Fishermen can use this to their advantage.  They get to know their fish.

Many fish who live in deep waters in the daytime will come up closer to the surface when the sun is not shining brightly.  They move to the depth they can see best.  If you see a fish wearing glasses, I can't help you.

So what have you learned?  If a friend tells you that a fish winked at him, they were likely telling another fish story.

I almost forgot that I had promised the answer to Monday's quiz.  Here it is.  Of course, I flew to JFK and from there the longest regularly scheduled flight in th world took me to Singapore.  From there, I took a short hop to Phuket, the capital city of Phuket Province of Thailand where I got that Thai food.  Near by was a place called Kamala Beach that I'm guessing was not named after the recent US Presidential candidate.  My Son Andy is good at this.
