MEXICO

Did you know there is a drug war going on in Mexico right now? The NYT reports that it is estimated that more than 1700 have been killed this year in the battle between drug gangs.

A spokesman for the Acapulco police department says, "This year has been one to forget. It's the most violent year in the last 50 years, and the acts are barbaric, bloody, with no trace of humanity." Beheadings are common. The citizenry is terrorized. The Mexican authorities have little chance of getting it under control in the near future.

If I lived in Mexico, I would probably try to sneak into the USA, too. It seems there is more than bad water waiting there for vacationers and spring breakers.
