STORIES MY DAD TOLD ME

Pinochle was the card game of choice when my dad was in the military. He loved it and played it endless hours, he said. I seldom hear of anyone playing pinochle, any more. By his account, he won a little money and lost a little money. The big bucks were exchanged in craps games, he recalled. He stayed out of those games most of the time. Many guys were broke for a whole month after getting in a craps game on payday.

When I was in the service, I don't remember that much card playing going on. If it happened, I would guess it was poker.
