CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

On Monday night, Josh Duncan again put Xavier on his shoulders and carried them to an A10 road victory. Duncan had 23 points and 5 boards in only 23 minutes while leading the Musketeers to a 81-77 win over Rhode Island. Josh had limited playing time due to early foul trouble but never missed a shot all night. It was the Rams first home loss of the season.

On Wednesday, the Bengals put the "franchise tag" on back-up offensive tackle Stacy Andrews. This guarantees Andrews a huge contract. What does this tell you?

The Reds signed mediocre major league pitcher, Josh Fogg, to a one year contract. I assume he is insurance against one of our youngsters, Bailey or Cueto, not making the rotation.

On a cold, snowy Thursday night in Cincinnati, the Xavier Musketeers played inspired ball against the Duquesne Dukes and powdered them with hot shooting 75-48. B.J. Raymond, C.J. Anderson, Derrick Brown and Jason Love all were in double figures. Brown also had 11 rebounds and Stanley Burrell had 12 assists.

On Saturday at noon, the UC Bearcats tested the highly ranked Georgetown Hoyas and found out what a good team is all about. The Cats were outclassed from the beginning and lost 73-53. Vaughn and Williamson each had 13 for Cincinnati. UC is now 13-13 and 8-6 in the Big East.

On Sunday afternoon, Xavier was in Dayton to take on the Flyers. The outmanned Dayton squad kept it close throughout but Josh Duncan's 14 points and Drew Lavender's nine did the trick and the Muskies prevailed 57-51. It was Xavier's 10th straight win and brought their season record to a lofty 24-4.
