CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

On the off-day Monday, the Reds finally brought up rookie phenom Jay Bruce. Voted the best player in all of minor league baseball last year, he was hitting .364 this year with 10 home runs. Lets hope we find him in centerfield for the next 15 years.

The Bengals Chad Johnson got in a scrape last year at a local comedy club. He sold tickets to the crowd for a chance to win a car and then arranged for his girl friend to win the car. The people at the club sued him. The lawyer who took his deposition on Tuesday said "he had the mental agility of a small soap dish." A day later, the Hamilton County Treasurer's office confirmed that Chad had failed to pay his property taxes for the last four years.

The Reds won two out of three from the Pirates to start the week. Jay Bruce was almost unstoppable. He went 4 for 9 and had 4 walks. The loss went to Aaron Harang who wasn't ready to pitch after throwing four innings in that 18 inning debacle the previous Sunday. The Braves came in on Friday for the weekend. The Reds treated them like redheaded stepchildren. They whipped them in extra innings on Friday and Saturday and Johnny Cueto completed the sweep on Sunday. Ken Griffey Jr got his 599th home run on Saturday. Jay Bruce got his first major league homer in the 10th inning on Saturday to win the game. He got another homer on Sunday. He is right now hitting .591 and is the most popular person in town. The Reds finished the week winning 5 and losing just one. They are now in fourth place in their division and 8 games behind the Cubs. Next week the play four against the Phillies in Philadelphia and finish the week with a Friday to Monday four game series in Florida against the Marlins.

Moeller and Lakota West in division I and Badin in division III are going to the State baseball final four. Moeller got to the game by beating Lakota East. Tim Robinson has been named the new head boys basketball coach at Hamilton High. Robinson is a 1988 graduate of Hamilton.
