SLICED BREAD
You may have heard people refer to something as "the greatest thing since sliced bread." Well, the Continental Baking Company purchased Wonder Bread from the Taggart Company of Indianapolis in 1925 and began selling a sliced version nationally in the 1930's. It didn't catch on too well at first and had to be stopped altogether when we entered World War II in the early 1940's. Stainless steel, used for bread cutting blades, was no longer available because it all went for war materials. Interstate Brands bought Continental in 1995 and sells Wonder Bread to this day. The red, yellow and blue balloons on the logo date back to the Taggart Company whose owner was inspired by a hot air balloon race held at the Indianapolis Speedway in 1921.
