At my age, I find it hard to do anything new. 'Been there, done that' and 'same old, same old' ... you know.
Last week I did have a new experience. My mother, who is rehabing in a nursing home, asked me to pick up a birthday card for her to give to her new friend. Its awkward enough choosing a card to fit the giver's liking but this recipient was going to be 100 years old. What kind of card do you get for a 100-year old?
I didn't waste a lot of time looking for cards made specifically for the 100th birthday. I looked at a few that were humorous but I wasn't sure she would get it. I thought about the kind that plays music when you open it but I thought that might scare her. I looked for cards with very large print but couldn't find any. When it came right down to it, I picked the perfect card. Of course, it was the cheapest one. It doesn't take much to make you happy at that age.
