The UC Bearcats played the South Florida Bulls before a national TV audience on Thursday night and did themselves proud. SFU was ranked 23rd in the country but the Cats took them apart 24-10. Tony Pike was able to quarterback the Cats despite his broken left arm and did well. He threw TD passes to Mardy Gilyard and, all-Big East defensive end, Conner Barwin.

Local high school football teams in state playoff action Friday night: Winton Woods beat Dunbar 58-12, Anderson beat Edgewood 55-7, and Kings beat Turpin 27-24 in division II; Badin beat Clinton Massie 33-27 (OT) and North College Hill got knocked out by Coldwater in division IV; New Miami got knocked out by Mechanicsburg and Lockland got knocked out by Covington in division VI.

On Saturday afternoon, the UC Bearcat basketball team played Carleton University of Ottawa and won with a stifling defense 64-54. Mike Williams, who sat out last year after blowing out a knee in preseason practice, scored 15 and Deonta Vaughn had 14 to lead the way against the perennial Canadian power.

In local high school football playoff games on Saturday night: Colerain edged Moeller 17-10 and Elder beat Centerville 52-27 in division I; CHCA beat East Clinton in division V.

On Sunday, the Bengals played the Jacksonville Jaguars at Paul Brown Stadium and got their first win of the season by a 21-19 score. Chad Ocho Cinco caught two TD passes from Ryan Fitzpatrick and Cedric Benson ran for 104 yards and scored the other TD. All is well in the 'nati.

Also on Sunday, Xavier got a commitment from 6'8" center/power forward Jordan Latham of Baltimore. Latham, a high school junior, is rated in the top 50 in the country for the class of 2010.
