ETYMOLOGY

Etymology is the study of the origin, history and derivation of words. This study has always fascinated me. Here is a good one.

The word whiskey comes from the Irish Gaelic word "usquebaugh". This word is a combination of the two Old Irish Gaelic words "uisce" and "bethad". Of course, the Irish do deserve their reputation. Those two words mean "water" and "life". It was the 'water of life' for many an Irishman.
