NFL HISTORY
The first ever league championship game in the NFL was played in 1932 between the Chicago Bears and the Portsmouth Spartans. The game was played because both teams finished with the same record, 7-1-6, in the 14-game season. (How 'bout all those ties?) The game was moved from Wrigley Field to Chicago Stadium because of a blizzard. Chicago Stadium had an 80-yard field. The Bears won 9-0. The following season, the league divided into two conferences and a regular league championship game was established. In 1970, the league championship game was renamed the Super Bowl.
