JACK DUPPS

Happy Birthday, Jack!

You share this birthday with one Orval Overall (born 1881). Orval went to the University of California at Berkeley and was captain of the football team and won All-American honors. (Pro Football didn't exist at that time, you know) In 1905 he debuted with the Cincinnati Reds as a right-handed pitcher. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs during the 1906 season and they went on to win the pennant. He pitched for the Cubs in both of their last World Championship seasons, 1907 and 1908. In 1909, he led the National League in strikeouts. Twice he had twenty win seasons and twice he led the league in shutouts. He is the answer to a great trivia question. Overall was the only man to strike out four batters in one inning in a World Series game...he did it in the 1908 series.

Be all that you can be!
