RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

The Reds started their first road trip of the season with a three-game series in Milwaukee. They won two of three. Edwin Encarnacion hit a grand slam, Joey Votto stayed hot and Jerry Hairston Jr showed his value.

The Bengals continue to sign players from last year's team in preparation for next weekend's draft. They also signed Pittsburgh running back Gary Russell off wavers. Russell returned kickoffs for the Steelers and likely will do that and back up Cedric Benson for the Bengals. He had five rushing touchdowns last year including one in the Super Bowl. Cincinnati now has way too many running backs. Something has to give. I think we shouldn't be surprised if Chad Ocho Cinco Johnson is traded by the time they make their first pick.

The Reds are having a strange four game, Friday thru Monday, series with the Astros. George and Babs Bush were in attendance on Saturday night. The Reds won two of the first three. New catcher Ramon Hernandez hit a ninth-inning game-winning home run on Friday night. The game winning RBI on Sunday was a double by pinch-hitter pitcher Micah Owings. Runs are still hard to come by.
