PASSOVER

Passover started at sundown yesterday. Our Jewish friends will be celebrating for the next eight days.

The holiday is in remembrance of God sparing the Israelites when he sent the 10 plagues to Egypt where they were enslaved. The last and worst of the plagues was the killing of the first born son of each household. God secretly told the Jews to put the blood of a spring lamb on the doorpost of their homes. These homes were then 'passed over' by the 'angel of death' and the son was not killed. When the Pharaoh saw this, he released the Israelites and told them to leave his land. Moses then led them out of Egypt and into the 'promised land'.
