CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

The Reds started the week off with four against the Cards in St. Louis. Each team was chasing the Brewers in the Central Division standings. Edinson Volquez started the opener but only lasted one inning before his arm got stiff and he was put on the 15-day disabled list. The Reds and Cards split the series. Lance Nix was a real force at the plate during the series.

Then the Reds were home for a three game weekend series with the Cubs. They played three close games including two going extra-innings but Cincinnati lost 2 of 3. Chris Dickerson was playing centerfield for the injured Willy Taveras and made Sports Center highlights every day. Matt Maloney made his first major league appearance with the start on Saturday for the Reds. He did well giving six strong innings and getting a hit in his first at bat.

Moeller High School won the State division I baseball title for the umpteenth time. Badin lost 7-6 in the finals and Reading lost in the semi-finals.
