CORPSE FLOWER

Yes, there is a flower known as the "corpse flower". It produces the largest single flower in the world. It gets its name from the pungent odor it emits when it blooms. It smells like a dead animal which attracts certain necessary pollinators.

It is a rain forest flower and the University of Missouri has one of these plants in it's greenhouse that is about to bloom...it may have bloomed this past weekend. It hasn't bloomed for eight years and when it does bloom it only lasts for about one day (12 - 20 hours). There is a web cam set up for all to watch. Don't miss this exciting viewing!... smell not included - I hope.
