Tiger Woods did it again. He won the PGA tour's Memorial Tournament for the fourth time. No surprise there.
That tournament is played at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. Jack Nicklaus and his partners designed and built the course in the early 1970's and he runs the event. It is one of the top golf courses in the world.
A couple of years prior to building Muirfield, Nicklaus built what was originally called the Jack Nicklaus Golf Center in Mason, Ohio near King Island. He built it in conjunction with designer Desmond Muirhead. Muirhead's design/build group did all of the work constructing the course. At one point, they thought they would subcontract the sprinkler irrigation system. I, working for Oldfield Equipment Company, was called in to quote on it but they decided to do it themselves. I did do some alterations soon after they left the site.
A couple years later, when they were in Dublin to do Jack's new course there, I was called up to again bid on the work. I walked that course when it was just cut out of the woods and you needed a drawing to get the concept of what they were doing. Again, I didn't get the work but I think about it every year when that tournament is going on.
