I was under the weather this week and I spent some time investigating my ancestors. Here is a note that I picked up off of an Irish website.
"The following curious and unusual inscription can be read on the tomb of Patrick Lysaght (1656-1741) at Kilfenora: 'Non quemaquam defraudavi, me saepe fefelli Et Marti et Baccho saepe tributa dedi' (translation: I have defrauded no one, I have often deceived myself, and I have often paid tribute to Mars and to Bacchus)."
When he said he paid tribute to Mars and to Bacchus, he was referring to the Roman god of war and the god of wine and intoxication. It's obvious my namesake was telling us that he "tied one on" once in a while and got a little roudy. Oh, the Irish!
