Don't make the mistake of thinking that the longer you hold wine unopened the better it will get. In most cases, not so. Only the best wines improve with age . . . none of those you're likely to drink are among those. Once opened, wine will last resealed for about a week before it degenerates. Many varieties, especially reds, improve when decanted into a larger container and allowed to breath. Don't overdo that...a short while will do the trick.
