CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

The Reds started the week in Milwaukee on Monday one-half game behind the Cards. Bronson Arroyo pitched a complete game 3-hitter and, unbelievably, lost 3-2. Scott Rolen came back to play after sitting out ten games. On Tuesday, they remembered how to bat and they mashed 12-4. Edinson Volquez had his second bad outing in a row. The rubber game on Wednesday, went to the Reds. They again pounded Brewer pitching including a Brandon Phillips grand slam.

The Bengals made the top of the sporting news by signing one Terrell Owens, a one-time wide- receiver extraordinaire. I don't foresee any problems with this signing as long as they win every game. Training camp opened up this week. Everyone is there except first-round-pick tight end Jermaine Gresham who has yet to sign a contract. In seven days they have to be ready to play the Cowboys in the Hall of Fame game.

The Reds hosted the Eastern division leading Atlanta Braves on the weekend. Friday night they blew a great opportunity and lost in extra innings. On Saturday, the Reds exerted their strengths and topped the Braves 5-2. On Sunday, the two teams could only gather seven hits between them but the Reds fine defense proved the difference in a 2-1 squeaker. The Reds finished the week 1/2 game behind the Cards.
