CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

The Reds started the week with three in Pittsburgh. They've pretty much owned the Pirates this year. Mike Leake had a tough go of it in the second game. He hit a batter in the head in the second inning and blew up. He allowed six runs that inning. The Reds fought back but lost 7-6. The first and third games they handled the Bucs easily. Travis Wood and Johnny Cueto got the wins. Joey Votto sat out two games with a sore wrist.

The Bengals signed their first round pick; tight end Jermaine Gresham. He's supposed to get some playing time on Sunday. The tight end position which was so lacking last year because of injury and inexperience seems to be loaded this year.

The Reds went on to Chicago for a weekend series. On Friday, Bronson Arroyo got his 11th win with a 3-0 shut-out. On Saturday, Drew Stubbs provided the fire power in a 4-3 squeaker. On Sunday, Travis Wood had another good start and the Reds overpowered the Cubbies, 11-4. Votto hit his 28th homer of the season. Cincinnati ends the week two games ahead of St. Louis who comes to town tonight for the biggest series of the season.

The Bengals and the Cowboys got the NFL preseason underway in the Hall Of Fame game on Sunday night. The score of these games is meaningless.
