WORDS

I often talk about words that are under-used.  Here is one I think is over-used and that we should abolish forever.  It is the modern verb disrespected.  What an abomination.  Tru Holloway said yesterday that the reason for the melee at the UC/XU basketball game was that they (XU) had been disrespected.  It would suit me if I never heard that word again.  When I grew up, we were taught not to pay attention to what others said about us.  Sticks and stones and all that went with it.  People fighting for respect now literally fight for it.  I don't know who respects the fighter but it isn't me.  I suppose thugs earn respect from other thugs by fighting.  They do not earn it from the rest of society that way.  Maybe they are confused...maybe they don't care.  In either case, it is sad.
