GREEK MYTHOLOGY

One of the little known figures in ancient Greek mythology was Tantalus.  He was a son of  Zeus by the nymph Plouto.  Tantalus was thus mortal but a favorite of the Gods.  He was allowed to dine with them.  One day he served up his son Pelops for dinner, which pissed off the Gods to no end.  They condemned him to the underworld with a torturous punishment.  He spent the rest of his days in water up to his knees but when he was thirsty and reached for the water, it would recede.  Branches of fruit trees hung just over his head but when he was hungry and reached for the fruit, they would raise out of his grasp.  It is from him and his torture that we derive the word tantalize.

Today's Greeks are in a similar situation.  I think their economy is hopelessly broken.  No matter how they try, it cannot be repaired.  If we don't fix out economy, we'll be in the same fix.
