Two-term presidents! To those not over forty, it might seem that most presidents serve two consecutive terms. Not so! Since George Washington took office in 1793, only thirteen have been multi-term presidents. That's 13 of 43.
I say multi-term because Franklin D Roosevelt, our 32 second President was actually elected four times. Shortly after, a Constitutional limit of two was placed on the number of times a president could serve.
Anyway, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe and Jackson (four of the first seven presidents) all served two terms. We didn't have another until Grant was elected in 1868 and 1873. I'm skipping over Grover Cleveland because, though her served two terms, they were not consecutive.
In the early twentieth century, Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson each served two terms. In my lifetime, Dwight D Eisenhower, Richard M Nixon, Ronald R Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George W Bush all were elected twice.
It's not that common and certainly not that necessary. Don't feel obligated to give any president a second term.
