Here is the current military phonetic alphabet used in telephone and radio transmissions.  It was last revised in 1957.  
a - Alpha  b - Bravo  c - Charlie  d - Delta  e - Echo  f - Foxtrot
g - Golf  h - Hotel  i - India  j  - Juliett  k - Kilo  l - Lima
m - Mike  n - November  o - Oscar  p - Papa  q - Quebec
r - Romeo  s - Sierra  t - Tango  u - Uniform  v - Victor
w - Whiskey  x - X-ray  y - Yankee  z - Zulu
Prior to 1957, a - Able, b - Baker, d - Dog, e - Easy, f - Fox,
g - George,  h - How,  i - Item,  j - Jig, k - King, l - Love, n - Nan,
o - Oboe, p - Peter, q - Queen, r - Roger, s - Sugar, t - Tare, 
u - Uncle, w - William, z - Zebra.
As you can see, there are some words in the old version we just don't use any more.
