RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SPORTS

Yesterday, I watched about 12 hours of golf, half of a blow-out high school football game, and the last two innings of the Reds game.

The Ryder Cup was all I had expected on the first day.  The U.S.A. has a 5-3 lead going into play this morning.  Tiger Woods, who stunk up the place in the morning rounds, is being put on the bench for today's morning competition.

I went to the Fenwick - Purcell Marion football game in Middletown.  It pitted my kid's school against my Alma Mater.  The Falcons made it 46-6 near the end of the second quarter and my bride didn't want to be there in the first place so we left.  We had tailgated for an hour before the game, so it wasn't too hard for me to agree to leave.

When we headed down the highway toward home, I noticed a strange edge to Marty Brennaman's voice on the radio.  Something is going on.  Finally, I got the word.  Homer Bailey was pitching a no-hitter.  Could it be - could he complete it?  Thanks to the strong Fenwick football team and a wife who likes to be in bed early, I was in front of my TV for all the fun at the end of the Reds 1-0 no-hit win over the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

It was a great sports day!
