RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

APRIL 1

Are you ready for some baseball?   I am.

Don't get fooled today by some fool pulling an April Fool's prank.

On this day in 1945 (3 months before I was born), American troops landed on Okinawa in the last campaign of the war with Japan - World War II that is.  We declared an end to that part of the war on August 14; now known as VJ Day (Victory in Japan).  Japan officially surrendered by signing documents aboard the Battleship Missouri on September 2, 1945.

Okinawa is an island which is part of Japan. The ship that carried me to Vietnam ported there in August, 1966.
