The 12 Apostles of Jesus are a hard group to get to know. Part of the problem is how they used names in those days. Many people went by more than one name; for instance, a Jew might have a Jewish name and also a Roman name if he were a Roman citizen. Others, just identified themselves by a single name and their city of origin or occupation. To further confuse us, very little is known about three of the Apostles. Here is a listing of the 12 originals.
- Simon who had his name changed by Jesus to Peter.
- Andrew who was Simon Peter's brother
- James the son of Zebedee
- John the brother of James and son of Zebedee
- Phillip
- Nathanael who was also called Bartholomew
- Levi who became known as Matthew
- Thomas
- James the Less
- Simon the Zealot
- Thaddeus who was also called Jude
- Judas Iscariot
Interesting people.
