RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

6/24/2013

JUNE 24

On this date in 1949 (I was four-years-old), NBC aired the first cowboy show ever to appear on television. It was Hopalong Cassidy.  Cowboy shows became a staple of early television and I watched several of them religiously.

Sky King was a modern day cowboy (he had an airplane) that first aired in 1951 and ran for eight years.  Roy Rogers started at the end of 1951 and lasted for six years.  The Roy Rogers show starred Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.

All of these shows were filmed in black and white.
