NAMESAKES

Unless you have a very common name, you no doubt have googled your own name to see what comes up on an Internet search engine.  I have done that several times.  My name is perfect.  There are just a enough  Patrick Lysaghts running around to make it interesting and not so many that it is overwhelming..

One of my namesakes, a Patrick J Lysaght 1808-1889, was an artist of some note. He had been a member of  the 78th Regiment of Foot which fought for the UK around the world.  He married Kate in County Cork in 1843 and had an exhibit at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin the same year.   They emigrated to New Zealand during the Great (Potato) Famine 1845-1852 and described himself as a miner.  They then emigrated to Australia in 1868.

He has works that hang in the National Museum of New Zealand and in the National Library of Australia in Victoria.  The painting copied below is an oil done in Australia.
