WELFARE

The Old Testament and Gospel readings at Catholic Churches this Sunday focus on end times and the afterlife. To me, the outstanding message is included in the New Testament reading.

In Paul's 2nd letter to the Thessalonians, you will find the following:

We urged you when we were with you, not to let anyone eat who had refused to work.  Now we hear that there are some of you who are leading undisciplined lives, doing no work themselves but interfering with other people's.  In the Lord Jesus, we urge and call on people of this kind to go on quietly working and earning the food that they eat.

I would say that it is Christian to demand that those that can work for their food - should!
