RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

LIGHT

I can't help but think of our ancestors in the dead of Winter.  Not only did they have the cold and snow to deal with but also this infernal period of short days and long nights.

Ten or eleven hours without sunlight plus an overcast setting the rest of the day can certainly be depressing.  Imagine how that would be for people who didn't have electricity.  No street lights in front of the cabin.  Candles, lanterns, and fire stoves were some help but nothing like we have today. Fires in a wooden house are dangerous so I'm sure they didn't leave any lit all night...no night-lights there.

People had to be braver...hardier...tougher... to live like that.   Afraid of the dark?  Couldn't have it.
