SLEEP

In case you were wondering, (I was) neither horses nor cows can get into deep sleep without laying down.  They can rest standing up - but not really sleep.  It seems their knees do not lock - which would be required for them to sleep on their feet.  Here are some additional facts.

Horses only require about 3 hours sleep per night.  In a group of horses, if they want to sleep, at least one of the group will always stay standing as a guard against any predators.

Cows lay down by folding their front legs under themselves and then putting both rear legs to one side. Then the cow will fold its neck so that it's head rests on it's shoulder.

I'm sure you were wondering.
