I've been thinking a lot again recently about what, if anything, we can do to save our country and the abysmal, overreaching federal government. So, how do we effect the thinning of the federal government? How do we move responsibility back to the lowest possible level of government? How do we ensure our personal freedoms?
I've come to the conclusion that we should put all our efforts into pushing for term limits. As far as I can see, there is no hope to make any meaningful changes without them.
Politicians who make a career out of getting elected are never going to make changes that would limit their own power. And make no mistake about it, they all do whatever it takes to get re-elected. No matter what they say, no matter what platform upon which they run, the two things that control all of their actions are the need for power and the need to get re-elected.
Our only hope is that we elect politicians who have no chance to get re-elected and will have to go back into the private sector and live with the rest of us. Its the way the Founding Fathers intended it to be ... and for good reason.
Term limits. Its our best chance.
