I see no way to justify the actions of the federal government in trading five Afghan detainees for one American deserter. There must be more to the story than I currently see.
The freed Taliban terrorists held at Guantanamo for up to 12 years are now in and under the control of the Arab state of Qatar. They have been given the equivalent of 'go stand in the corner' by requiring that they stay in Qatar for one year.
The American deserter, Sgt Bowe Burgdahl from Utah, will no doubt undergo courts martial to determine his culpability. I'm sure he'll get 'lawyered-up' shortly and have a different spin on his desertion than what is now known.
The whole deal might be tolerable if the five terrorists have had a GPS tracking device or a bomb secretly implanted under the skin on their heads. Good idea, huh?
