There has been a controversy for some time about the name of the NFL team in Washington D.C. Those who are crazy about proper language and afraid that anyone might be offended by name-calling are asking the Redskins to change their name. This name is considered demeaning to American Indians. Dan Snider, the team owner says he will not make a change. There is an impasse.
I suggest we allow them to keep the name Redskins if they change their logo to a potato. Problem solved.
If US Steel gets upset with the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers who use their logo, the logo could be changed to a man in a ski-mask breaking a store window (most of their fans can't spell, anyway). Their fans could relate to that.
This would also work for the MLB Cleveland Indians who could change their logo to a motorcycle. Indian motorcycles were the best in the world before WWII.
Its interesting to note that our Cincinnati Reds were originally the Red Stockings. Not to be confused with the Boston Red Sox, they changed to Reds. Then, in the midst of post-WWII fears of the Russians (known as the Reds because of their red star logo), the club changed to Redlegs. When the Russian threat ceased to be so palpable, the name was changed back to Reds.
