Any lawyer will tell you that many briefs are long. (I prefer boxer briefs)
A seamstress could fix your long pants but an electrician will fix your shorts.
If your shorts are short, they are short shorts.
If your shorts are long, they are Capri pants.
If your dog is tired, it pants.
If your pants fall down, you better have on your boxers or briefs or shorts.
