Today we have one of those Gospel parables that just doesn't sit right with our idea of justice. It is the story of the landowner who hired workers for his fields one day; some early in the morning, others at different times during the day and some, even just a few hours before quitting time. Of course, at the end of the day, he paid every worker the same amount.
Those that worked all day were ticked off - they thought they should have gotten more. The landowner explains to them that they received a fair wage for a day's work and that he could pay the others whatever he wanted since it was his money he was giving out. This would not have gone over to big in a modern union shop.
The moral of the story is similar to an automobile driver in today's world who is ticketed for speeding when others were also speeding. You often hear them decry that the others didn't get a ticket.
The whole answer here is: "Don't worry about the other guy - don't be jealous." We seldom see the whole picture, anyway. Do what is right and you will be done right.
