RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

9/22/2014

SEPTEMBER 22

On this date in 1994, twenty years ago, the television show Friends first aired. It lasted 10 seasons as a prime-time leader in American television and is now in syndication.

It was a staple in our household most of those years.  My wife still adores cutesy blonde Rachel Green.  Monica Geller and her big brother Ross were integral parts of the cast; one got divorced and the other married during the run.  Low IQ wanna-be actor Joey Tribbiani lived in an apartment across the hall from Monica and Rachel with his buddy Chandler Bing -  a near-normal kind of guy.  Ditzy blonde Phoebe Buffay dropped in every week.

In most episodes, some or all of the cast stopped into the Central Perk coffee shop, saw white haired idiot Gunther, and gave a real boost to the Starbucks franchise.  This week, in New York City, a new Central Perk was opened up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show.

(You mean, those aren't their real names?  I loved that show.)
