MY DAD part 3

When my Dad was ready to go to high school, his brothers pushed him to go to what they called "Latin School"  ie. St. Xavier High School, which was part of Xavier College and operated in downtown Cincinnati.  Dad went there for one year until the high school and college split apart and moved.  He then went to Purcell High School and graduated in 1937.

In 1942, when the U.S. entered World War II, his big brothers were enlisting and ordered him to stay home with their mother. Suddenly jobs were available and dad got one at National Distillers, in the Carthage area.

During those years, young singles in Cincinnati went drinking and dancing at events run by organizations like the Eagles or VFW and to Ault Park where big bands played in the open air.  Dad met my mother, a young lady fresh out of  Norwood High School, at the St. Bernard Eagles hall.  And so it began!  Remember that all transportation at this time, for them, was by 'street car' and if you found a telephone, it was a party line.   (tough dating.)
