MY DAD part 9

In the 1970's, Dad was pretty secure at Clopay.  He was active in the men's club at his church.  He ended up with nine grandchildren to dote on.

He had weddings for both of his daughters to put on.  Sharon married Ed Martin from Pittsfield, Massachusetts.  They were wed at Dad's church with a typical reception on the west side of town.  Dad loved Ed and his whole family.

Kathy married John Haubrich from Cleveland.  They were wed and the reception was held at the Carousel Motel reception center in Reading.  Dad's church would not allow the marriage to take place there because John was divorced.  John and his family were more the 'wine and champaign type' than the 'beer and shot type' which dad preferred.

All the children and grandchildren congregated at mom and dad's house many times on weekend afternoons. Quite often the men would retire to Shafer's Tavern on Carthage at Cathedral.  To say the least, this was not popular with Kathy and the rift began.
