RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

WHEN I WAS A KID

I grew up in a neighborhood that was built in the 1920's.  Our back yard included two large walnut trees. The people next door on all sides also had big trees.  It made for a shady yard in the Summer but a lot of work in the Fall.  Lots of leaves.

We would rake them all together in a large pile and set them on fire.  Yes, right there in the middle of the yard.  Big fires - just try not to set the house on fire.  Everybody did the same.  You never forget that smell. Burning leaves - I love it.  It's not so bad raking if you don't have to pick them up.  How did we ever live through it?
