When I was a kid (well, actually when I was old enough to notice) you pulled your car into the service station and a man came running out to see what you wanted. He would always check your oil while your gas was being pumped.
The popular gasoline brands were Texaco, Amoco, Gulf, Phillips 66, Mobile and Standard Oil. There were only two grades of gas available: regular and "high test". Sunoco tried offering five options at one time - that didn't catch on too well. Anyway, I'm not sure we need them all but most gas stations now offer three grades. I'm just a 'regular' kind of guy.
