POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT

Positive reinforcement is what everyone needs.  Our fragile egos need affirmation that our actions are good.
This is the number one axiom that coaches of youth athletics should remember.

It is so much easier to point out faults than it is to offer praise for what is expected but that praise can be so much more important to most kids.  A coach can't afford to teach something, then throw the kids onto the field and just tell them what they are doing wrong.  That's not enough!  If a coach should say anything to himself before each practice, it is to promise to say "good job" at least as often as 'bad'.

School teachers need to take the same approach.  Frequent quizzes and tests do the trick.  The incorrect answers are noted but so are the correct ones.  Coaches are teachers and should take the same approach.

Parents, family, teachers and coaches have a profound impact on our youngsters.   Unashamedly seek the best for your charges.
