WHEN I WAS A KID

When I was a kid, 1959 to be exact, we were having a grade school graduation program.  Some of the girls in our class had taken it upon themselves to make up a little poem or song (I can't remember which) that included all the names of the 42 graduates.  It was suppose to tell the future and be funny.

Each student, including me, eagerly awaited to hear what was said about them.  Well, all of a sudden, there it was.  "Pat will continue to make grandma's Lysol."  What???  Lysol!!!  A crude mispronunciation of my beautiful Irish name.  Carol Scherl read the line.  I'll never forget it.  I hoped for so much more.  Wouldn't you think the smartest, most popular kid in the class could have expected a better fate?  I was scarred for the rest of my life.

I'm glad I finally got that off my chest.
