RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

SUNDAY SERVICE

The third Sunday of Lent brings us the Gospel story of the Samaritan woman whom Jesus asked to give him a drink of water.  It seems Jews, like Jesus, normally had nothing to do with Samaritans much less their women.  Jesus took the opportunity to explain to her that He was God and had come to save all people - not just the Jews.

One key thing is another story based on the use of water.  Water wiped out evil people in the time of Noah.  Moses was found in the water of the Nile as a baby.  The water of the Red Sea saved the Jews from the Egyptian armies.  John baptized with the water of the Jordan River.  Jesus turned water into wine.  Jesus was tempted by the Devil in the desert with water.

We cannot live without water.  Jesus is the water.
